Object Making With Lines

If the title of this post is confusing, this is what we’ll be working on today: making an object of your own creativity through lines and curves. This way of creating and spawning objects gives the person more of a free flowing idea of what they want their object to be in every way. Now since I, too, have some difficulty with this, I will be doing this on Maya while I’m typing out what the next steps are, okay? Okay, here we go!

To start off, Open up Maya(of course), and select the Surfaces tab. It’s right below the exit button for people who can’t find it. Now, you want to go to the front view of the grid for this. OKAY! Next, you should go to the Create window and select CV curve. After this, I would suggest that you go under Edit, go to Keys, and select Snap Key(this lets the curve snap into it’s position). After that, make anything you want! I would say make something easy like a lamp, but This one is for you guys to wander around your creative minds. I’m gonna make a lightbulb!

Okay, after you’re done making your awesome curve, hit enter(or return if you have a mac). Now, this completes the curve that you have just made. But we want to make it an object, not a curve. So, go under Surfaces(right next to Edit Nurbs and Edit Curves(this is where the File and Edit windows are)), and select Revolve. and BAM! it’s an object!

Now you can make it any color you want, add shading, and even make your object dance!

I hope I made you guys make awesome things today! If you have any questions, email me at balgowr1@tcnj.edu.

Have a great day guys!

here’s my lightbulb!
